I have a niece-in-law who is an officer-of-the-law. Lil' Joyce wanted to be a cop since she was a little girl. Even at two-years old her boldness was twice as high as her distance from the ground. So was her determination.
She dogged down any obstacle between her and
her goal.
Right after high school she applied to the police force. She threw herself into the training, out-grunting many taller trainees who couldn’t hack it.
Now, many years later, she's certified, credentialed, and experienced.
She's seen it all: thugs, thieves, drunken motorists, and more. All have been brought to heel under her steely resolve. She is used to taking calm control of rowdy miscreants.
Until the day she was goosed.
The fowl flurry of fury overwhelmed her training. In fact, she had no training in insane primordial savagery. From out of nowhere she was assaulted by hissing honks, beating wings, and brutal beak. Those who say hell hath no fury like a woman scored has never been attacked by a Canadian Goose.
Seconds before the attack Joyce had been quietly peddling along the bike path in the parkway, enjoying her day off. She didn't even notice the goose-nest by the edge of the stream. Had she known about the nest she would have gone wide around it.
Too late.
As she peddled furiously away an alternate possibility came to mind. She did have her service pistol with her. She could shoot the gander dead. No. that wouldn't do. A big part of her attraction to the parkway was the wildlife.

Joyce took off like she was being chased by a T-Rex, which wasn't far wrong. Birds are dinosaurs. They're smaller than their ancestors, but no less ferocious. If the cute sparrows outside your window were big enough, they'd eat you.
